How it differs from a traditional agency
| Traditional agency | AI marketing agency | |
|---|---|---|
| Research | Done by hand over days or weeks | AI-assisted, done in hours and checked by people |
| Creative | A few versions per campaign | Many versions, so more can be tested |
| Optimisation | Reviewed at set intervals | Monitored continuously, with people deciding what to change |
| Reporting | Assembled manually | Pulled together automatically, explained by a person |
| Strategy | Set by people | Set by people |
The last row is the important one. AI changes how quickly the work gets done. It does not change who is responsible for it.
What an AI marketing agency actually does
- Researches your market, competitors and customers.
- Plans which channels to use and what each should deliver.
- Writes and designs adverts and content, in more versions than a person could alone.
- Builds and manages campaigns on platforms such as Meta and Google.
- Reports on results and recommends what to do next.
Five questions to ask before hiring one
- Where exactly do you use AI, and where do people take over?
- Who checks the work before it goes live?
- What happens to my data, and does it go into public AI tools?
- How will you report results, and on which numbers?
- Can I see examples of the work?
A good agency answers all five plainly. Be wary of anyone who says the AI does everything.
Do you need one?
If you have time to learn the tools and a simple offer, you can do a lot yourself. An agency makes sense when you want to grow faster than your own time allows, when paid advertising is involved, or when you need creative you cannot produce in-house.
Questions answered
Is an AI marketing agency cheaper than a traditional agency?
Not always. AI reduces the time routine work takes, and a good agency puts that time into more testing and better strategy. Judge an agency on the results it produces for the fee, not on the fee alone.
Does an AI marketing agency use people at all?
Yes. Strategy, creative judgement, client relationships and final approval are done by people. An agency that removes people entirely is selling automation, not marketing.
What is the difference between AI marketing and marketing automation?
Marketing automation follows fixed rules, such as sending an email three days after an enquiry. AI marketing uses tools that can generate and adapt content and spot patterns in data. Most agencies now use both together.
