Marketing for Hertfordshire businesses
Hertfordshire is not one market. It is a ring of towns with their own high streets, many people who commute into London, and customers who will happily cross into the next town. This is how we plan marketing for that.
One county,
many markets
St Albans, Watford, Stevenage, Hertford, Hemel Hempstead, Hitchin, Cheshunt and Bishop’s Stortford each have their own high street and their own customers. A campaign aimed at the whole county usually spends money in towns your customers never come from.
We start by finding where your customers really are, then build campaigns around your premises or town by town, so the budget goes where it can pay back.
Planning around
commuters
Many people who live in Hertfordshire work in London, so they spend their days in one place and their evenings and weekends in another. For a local business, adverts shown to people where they live, at the times they are at home, often make more sense than reaching them at their desk.
Meta Ads can be set to reach people by where they live or have recently been, and both Meta and Google let you choose when adverts run.
What we do
for you
- Meta Ads on Facebook and Instagram, targeted by town or by distance from your premises.
- Google Ads for searches that include a town name or “near me”.
- Ad creative that names your area and shows your real work. See ad creative.
- Growth marketing that fixes the steps between an advert and a booking. See growth marketing.
Local work:
Verulam
Verulam is a Hertfordshire pest control business, and we made two static adverts for it to run on Meta.
Rats. The brief was to win local rat jobs across Hertfordshire by turning a worry into an urgent, easy next step. We made a close-up of a rat chewing through a cable, a blunt headline, “Stop rats before they stop you”, and a single Book a visit button. The goal: create urgency without scaremongering, and make booking feel quick, local and safe.
Wasps. The brief was to promote fixed-price wasp nest removal across the county in peak season. We made a sharp close-up of a wasp with the line “We won’t sting you on price”, a pun that doubles as the fixed-price promise. See both adverts and their briefs.
Where we
are based
We are based in Waltham Cross, in the Borough of Broxbourne in the south east of the county. For businesses close to us, see marketing in Waltham Cross and Cheshunt.
We work with businesses of any size, in any sector, across Hertfordshire and the rest of the UK.
Questions
answered
Do you work with businesses across Hertfordshire?
Yes, and across the UK. Blank Canvas Media is based in Waltham Cross, in the Borough of Broxbourne.
Should my adverts target the whole of Hertfordshire?
Usually not. Unless your customers really come from across the county, a wide area spreads a small budget thinly. Start with the towns or the distance your current customers come from, and widen it once that works.
How much should a Hertfordshire business spend on Meta Ads?
There is no county rate. Work back from what a customer is worth to you and what you can afford to pay to win one. Our guide on how much to spend on Meta Ads shows the method step by step.
Can you make adverts that mention our town?
Yes. Naming the town or area in the headline or image is one of the simplest ways to show people you are local.
